Insurance Overview

Understanding Insurance

Motor Vehicle Insurance: Drivers are required by state law to have a minimum amount of liability coverage to pay for damages to others if you cause an accident. You can purchase more coverage if you wish; this will protect you from greater loss if you are found responsible for causing a car accident.

Liability insurance only pays for claims or judgments against you if you are found negligent. To protect yourself if you are injured in an accident with an uninsured driver, you can purchase coverage known as "uninsured / underinsured motorist benefits." If the amount of your damages exceeds the negligent party's coverage, you can make a claim under this coverage from your own company.

Med Pay or Personal Injury Prostitution

To cover your medical bills related to an auto crash, you may want to purchase an additional coverage called "medical payments." Its intent is to pay for the medical needs of a driver or passengers. It only covers those who are in the insured car. Payments for medical bills under this coverage wll be made regardless of who is at fault.

Collision coverage is another type of voluntary car insurance. It covers repairs to or replacement of your vehicle after an accident, regardless of who is at fault. This allows you to pay for repairs to your vehicle if you are at fault, or if your car is damaged by someone who has no insurance or who flees the scene. There is usually a deductible.
